About the book

WHERE EAGLES FLY FREE by David A. Jacinto, book II in the award-winning courageous series including the New York City BB Award for the best historical fiction of 2024, is based on the true story of Thomas Wright and his young wife Annie, who are driven from their home in England to the shores of America.

This second book of the Courageous series follows Out of the Darkness, winner of numerous awards including New York City’s Book Award for best historical fiction of 2024, first prize in the prestigious Firebird competition, and Amazon's #1 slot in its class for new releases.

We follow Tom and Annie as they chase their American dream across the Atlantic up rivers, over plains and mountains, through Indian uprisings, frontier disasters, and their crucial role in the greatest technological feat of the nineteenth century, tying the frontiers of America’s Wild West to the Gilded Age of New York City.

This is a masterfully told story of America’s western expansion at a time when Abraham Lincoln described the American Covenant as the last best hope for man on earth. It is a fast-moving story of adventure, faith, romance, greed, sacrifice, family, and the courage of these immigrants to push aside fear in a life-and-death confrontation with arguably the most despicable robber baron of nineteenth-century America. It is the story of the great sweep of human desire for freedom, liberty, and a home on a piece of land to call your own.

Independent Book Review

"A richly detailed and thoroughly researched narrative, the novel is both an homage to the American immigrant experience and an unflinching examination of the hardships that built a nation.”

"Jacinto integrates historical events and figures into the Wrights’ journey, lending an air of authenticity that makes the novel feel as much an educational experience as it is an adventure.”

"At its core, Where Eagles Fly Free is a novel about survival—not just in the physical sense, but in the fight to hold onto one’s ideals in the face of relentless hardship.”

“…An excellent narrative that captures the sweeping scope of history and the intimate struggles of those who lived it.”

"Jacinto has crafted a novel that does not just tell the story of one family’s journey—it encapsulates the larger story of America’s past, with all its triumphs and tragedies.”
